The Governing Board
In recent years the role of governing boards in schools has changed. Governors are now strategic leaders of schools and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education. This is reflected in the law, which gives governors three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Ofsted inspections now judge the effectiveness of a school's governing board. In its most recent inspection Ofsted confirmed that Goodyers End Primary School has an effective governing board which fulfils all of its statutory duties.
Governors are elected for a term of four years and are drawn from a variety of categories to represent all stakeholders. The majority group on the governing board at Goodyers End Primary School are parent governors. In line with national statutory requirements, the Governing Board at Goodyers End Primary School was reconstituted during the academic year 2014-15.
